EMS

Overview

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division serves as the department’s principal medical response and patient‑care unit, dedicated to delivering comprehensive, high‑quality emergency medical services to the community. Operating continuously, EMS personnel respond to 911 calls with advanced clinical capability and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

Emergency Response Operation

The division provides both Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS), ensuring that every medical emergency is met with the appropriate level of care. Paramedics and emergency medical technicians are trained to perform rapid patient assessment, stabilization, and safe transport to medical facilities. These efforts ensure timely intervention and improve outcomes for citizens experiencing medical emergencies across the service area.

Administrative and Revenue Management

Beyond field operations, the EMS Division manages the administrative and financial processes associated with emergency medical services. This includes medical billing, documentation oversight, compliance verification, and revenue collection. These functions promote transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability of EMS operations, enabling continued investment in personnel, equipment, and advanced medical technologies.

Community Health and Integrated Care Programs

The EMS Division leads several innovative initiatives that expand care beyond the traditional emergency response model. The Columbus Correct Care Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) program provides targeted medical support and follow-up care for high-risk and underserved populations. This proactive approach reduces preventable emergency room visits and enhances continuity of care.

Additionally, the Right Site Program offers 911 call navigation and on-scene physician-supported telehealth services. This program ensures individuals stay connected with the most appropriate level of care, reducing unnecessary ambulance transport and alleviating strain on the emergency response system.
