GDOT to Host Public Open House for Proposed Roundabout Improvements

The Georgia Department of Transportation and Transportation Investment Act Program will host a Public Information Open House for proposed improvements at the Schomburg Road and Blackmon Road bridges over J.R. Allen Parkway (P.I. No. 0019535).

The open house will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 5–7 p.m. at Blackmon Road Middle School, 7251 Blackmon Road. The public may attend at any time; no formal presentation will be given.

KCBC ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL TEE LIKE A LADY GOLF CLINIC

The Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission will host its second annual Tee Like a Lady Golf Clinic on Thursday, September 10, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Bull Creek Golf Course. The event will feature two instructional clinic sessions followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Portion of River Walk Behind Columbus Civic Center Temporarily Closed for Maintenance

A portion of the Columbus River Walk located behind the Columbus Civic Center will be temporarily closed from Monday, August 31, through Thursday, September 3, 2026.  The closure is necessary to allow Columbus Water Works to perform maintenance on a discharge structure in the area.

Extreme Heat Conditions Expected, Cooling Options Available at Columbus Parks & Recreation Facilities

According to Emergency Management officials, the National Weather Service is forecasting prolonged periods of extreme heat, with heat index values expected to exceed 105 degrees over the coming days and possibly weeks. These conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Residents who need relief from the heat are encouraged to visit Columbus Parks and Recreation facilities during normal business hours. Most facilities are open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with limited hours available on Saturdays. Community members are welcome to come inside, cool down, and stay safe during these high-temperature periods.
